Situated in South-eastern Europe, Bulgaria occupies the north-eastern part of the Balkan Peninsula and has an area of 111,000 sq. km. It is bordered by Black Sea to the east, Macedonia and Serbia and Montenegro to the west, Romania to the north and Greece and Turkey to the south.

Geographically the country has much to offer with the major mountain ranges of Rila, Pirin, Rhodope and Stara Planina, almost 400 kms of coastline with fine beaches, beautifully peaceful rolling countryside and hot mineral spas. This provides for leisure activities in both summer and winter for all tastes, and accounts the county's popularity as a tourist destination.

Bulgaria has over 13 centuries of history and a rich cultural heritage, which was influenced by Thracians, Greeks, and Romans, traces of which can still be found as you explore miles of unspoilt countryside.
